Marcia Herrmann: Goodness still lives

Every once in a while, something happens that reminds me there still are many, many good people in our community. My particular example involves one of our excellent downtown businesses, Crow Trading Co.

Last week, I had hastily put $400 in my purse at work to pay for a home project. On the way home, I stopped by Crow Trading Co. to look at a piece of furniture that I ended up buying. In the course of pulling out my wallet, I unwittingly dropped the four $100 bills.

Later, after I got home, I went to move the money to my wallet. Obviously, it was gone.

Only later, when I remembered having gone to Crow Trading Co., did I wonder if that's where the missing $400 might be. I called Jennifer Williams, the owner. I asked her, "Did you find something yesterday?" She coyly had me describe what I lost, then quickly responded that she, indeed, had found the cash. Had I not called, she was going to donate it to charity.

Thank you, Jennifer, for being honest and setting an example for the rest of us. You have a customer for life.
