James Wells: Military not only occupation that can turn deadly
Re “Military housing not a benefit” (Letters, March 29): In regard to military housing, a U.S. Army veteran recently wrote: “So before you compare military pay. ... No one outside the military has as a job requirement – their life.” (Meaning the veteran’s life may have been in jeopardy during the course of his or her service to their country.)
While the writer felt sanctified in criticizing what he considered “less-than-informed opinions,” he seems to have forgotten that firefighters run into burning buildings and police officers and sheriff’s deputies run toward the sound of gunfire – not away from it.
