Lynn Goldfarb: Actually, there is common ground on fixing the climate

Re “Common ground, not likely on climate change,” (Letters, Jan. 12), expressing the view that GOP politicians are climate-change deniers: The GOP’s traditional focus has been on promoting a free-market economy and no new taxes or government regulations. There is a simple solution to climate change that even the GOP could support because it uses conservative economic principles, is revenue-neutral, uses no government regulations and, climate change aside, it will be good for our economy – adding 2.8 million jobs and increasing GDP by $75-$80 billion annually throug the Regional Economic Models, Inc. plan.

Without hurting consumers or taxpayers we can phase out fossil fuels and force countries like China to do the same, using market forces. This plan is endorsed by most major economists – conservative and progressive – including eight Nobel Prize winners. One of its most vocal proponents is Ronald’s Reagan’s Treasury Secretary, George Schultz.
