Steve Lovejoy: Obama has all the authority he needs to attack ISIS
Do your homework. In “Obama should show resolve against terror” (Our View, Dec 8): The editorial writer states “The (Republicans) carping would have more credibility if they would authorize military force against the Islamic State as Obama has asked.” The president already has the authorization.
Senate Joint Resolution 23 provides Authorization for Use of Military Force and was signed by President George W. Bush in 2001 and is still in effect. What President Obama wants is a “watered down” version that will give him cover to do little or nothing by restricting his actions.
Maybe the writer should do his homework before just voicing the liberal agenda.

Editor’s note: President Obama requested Congress pass SJR 21 in 2013 as a demonstration that America is united in fighting ISIS in Syria; Congress has refused. Since then, Obama has committed ground troops to act as advisers in Syria under the authority granted in SJR 23.
