Jim Waddell: Bee gets it right on pit bulls
Here’s a letter of support for your opinion (“Owners of pit bulls didn’t like Our View,” Page D1, Nov. 9) from a guy who spent the better part of 40 years in law enforcement. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind or in the minds of the vast majority of my colleagues that pits are a nuisance and menace to society.
I’ve been retired for 10 years, but during the latter part of my career it was common knowledge that a huge percentage of pit bulls were owned and maintained by drug dealers for obvious reasons. I remember having to shoot and kill at least eight of those monsters in the line of duty. Most were shot when we were doing a raid, but some were shot while answering calls for service for a variety of reasons where the dog would attack or threaten us as we approached a home.
I support The Bee’s position.
Jim Waddell, Oakdale
