Michael Hamiel: Hurray for Bee in exposing festival scam

Just about the time I’m ready to wring my hands over the demise of the 4th Estate, The Modesto Bee comes back with reporting from a cadre of reporters that just makes one want to fist-pump to the high heavens and shout “that’s what I’m talking about!”

The well-written and well-researched into the questionable “Beer and Bites” festival by reporters Erin Tracy and Marijke Rowland once again brings home the message that a daily newspaper is an integral part of our lives that we should not take for granted. I fear the day we don’t have a source of truthful reporting. Yes, this story appeared on local television; wanna guess where they got the story from?

Kudos to The Bee and reporters Tracy and Rowland (sounds like a law firm).

Michael Hamiel, Manteca
