Sue Callahan: Modesto police deserve support for excellent work they do

Re “G makes us safer” (Letters, Aug. 28): This is in response to Al Pound’s letter concerning the Modesto Police Department. We purchased our home in 1980 and live across the street from a city park. My husband was a full-time truck driver and I was alone at home much of the time. During that time, I had several occasions to call 911. The police were at my home almost before I hung up the phone. Even recently I had to call the police due to an incident in the park. Again, they were here quickly and had the person arrested and the incident was taken care of.

I don’t know what measure G consists of, but I do know the Modesto Police Department has done an outstanding job. The way the U.S. is going, it will be a shame if there is a reduction in the force. These fine men and women put their lives on the line every day and without them, this country will become a country of anarchy.

Sue Callahan, Modesto

Editor’s note: Measure G is a half-percent sales tax within Modesto’s city limits.
