Gerry Kilgore: Why does it take county 6 months permit solar panels?

Re “Why can’t I get solar at my home?” (Letters, April 23): I too have been waiting for a permit to install solar panels on my home. A friend’s request was submitted by the solar company (same company I am using) in December and my paperwork was submitted in January. The solar company advised us that Stanislaus County is known to have a six-month timeframe to get a permit approved. According to them, this is substantially longer than other counties.

How can I get this expedited? How does it take three months (let alone six) to review the paperwork and determine if it adheres to the requirements? It’s either there or isn’t. Then it should be a simple step to approve the permit or reject the request and notify the requester of the outcome.
