Arlene Kennedy: No patience with letter from unemployed senior

Re “Seniors don’t have a chance” (Letters, April 24): As a senior female a few years older than the letter writer, I am disgusted with not only her attitude but by so many seniors who think that just because they are older they deserve special treatment.

First, the respect issue. Respect is something earned throughout life, not something inherent with age. Second, all of us seniors had our younger days to make it and were given a chance, so why would anybody deny the younger generations from doing the same? Third, some seniors seem to be in denial that the aging process has effects. We are not as strong, agile, quick, or bright in many respects as the younger generations. Quit whining seniors and be happy that we have had the benefit of growing older.
