Sue Zwahlen: If Denham really wants to help Dreamers, there’s a simple way

Re “Denham can help ‘Dreamers’ – if he wants to” (Page 7A, Jan. 11): Congressman Jeff Denham made a big show last week of supporting the Dreamers – young people brought to this country by their parents years ago who know no other homeland. But I just don’t trust the man who swore he would never take away our health care and then voted to do just that.

Denham also promised to put his constituents first when it came to the tax bill, then voted for a plan that will cost District 10 and Californians everywhere millions while providing giant corporations and billionaires a huge windfall. So what The Bee said is correct – if Rep. Denham really wanted to help the Dreamers, he would sign the discharge petition today forcing the House to vote on a bipartisan “Dream Act” that will immediately protect those Dreamers.

Immigrants like my grandparents helped build this country, and today’s immigrants are vital to our future. Let’s keep our promise and keep our hard-working Dreamers working hard for America.

Sue Zwahlen, Modesto, candidate for District 10.
