Rhett Calkins: Red Cross creating ill-will with robo-calling tactics

Your organization is using an “auto-dialer” to call blood donors. At my home we do not appreciate machines and software making our phone ring at any time of day. This is a practice most often used by businesses operating with shady marketing. My home phone has been the target of your auto-dialer for the past two weeks.

Regulations released in 2015 by the FCC and established under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 targets this practice by establishing a do-not-call list.

This evening I called back the number to find out who you are: the American Red Cross.

I called and I asked to be placed on your “do not call list.” You denied my request because you need to identify me? I gave my name and phone number, and you still deny? Why is this so similar to trying to disconnect cable TV?

The American Red Cross was once a great organization. Who are you now? You have fallen so very far. I mourn for all those who have given so much in the past. You have dishonored the once great title of The American Red Cross.

I shall become a champion of any other organization other than The American Red Cross.

Rhett Calkins, Hughson
