Beverley Herrero-Hart: President Obama should pay more attention to his words

Re “Obama’s message wasn’t hate” (Letters, Feb. 26): It is interesting how people can become insulting to half the population whom they perceive as “simple-minded.”

President Obama, I will assume, is an educated man who knows how to put together a speech to convey a topic without treading into a minefield of explosive subjects, one that is evident in its nature to cause a less-than-happy reaction. Unfortunately, our President has caused his own “bad press.” It was inevitable that his words were not chosen carefully or in a way to let those who were listening feel they were the selected few who were to be blamed as Christians.

Yes, we should look to our own behaviors. But our President should also keep in check his own behavior when speaking to the public.
