At 6:23 p.m. on Wednesday, the NWS Medford OR issued a fire weather watch valid for Friday between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. for Modoc County Except for the Surprise Valley.
Residents can expect winds to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with peak gusts of 30 to 35 mph.
"The combination of gusty winds, low humidity and critically dry fuels will allow any fires that develop to spread rapidly," comments the NWS.
This watch is in effect until Friday at 9 p.m.
According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
