Did you enjoy the mild Memorial Day weather? More is ahead for the Modesto area
Modesto-area residents can expect more of the mild weather they enjoyed at Memorial Day picnics.
The National Weather Service forecast a high temperature of 74 degrees on Tuesday. It calls for 76 on Wednesday and 77 on Thursday, followed by a more typical 81 on Friday. The weekend is expected to be in the middle to upper 80s before a spike to 94 degrees on Monday, June 1.
The holiday had a high of 76 degrees at the downtown offices of the Modesto Irrigation District. The historical average for May 25 is 82 degrees.
Central Valley residents might think of Memorial Day as the kickoff to summer, but the average high does not reach the upper 90s until July and August. And spikes can happen earlier, such as the 90 degrees recorded by MID on March 18.
The pleasant forecast comes with a warning: wind gusting up to 18 mph through Monday night. That could mean wildfires spreading fast after igniting amid brush and timber. In a typical year, little rain hits the Valley and adjacent Sierra Nevada from June to October.
