Beach hazards statement affecting Malibu Coast and Los Angeles from Saturday to Monday

A beach hazards statement was issued by the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA on Thursday at 11:27 a.m. valid from Saturday 6 p.m. until Monday 9 a.m. for Malibu Coast and Los Angeles.

"Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected," describes the NWS. "Minor Beach erosion and isolated minor coastal flooding is possible. Most likely during the evening high tides (7pm to 11pm) on Saturday and Sunday."

"There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore," adds the NWS. "Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks."

This statement is in effect until Monday at 9 a.m.
