Modesto could see ‘sub-freezing temperatures’ along with rain showers. Here’s when
More wintry weather is headed to the Modesto area in the form of rain showers and below-freezing temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued a freeze warning on Monday for much of Northern California, including Modesto.
“Sub-freezing temperatures” as low as 30 degrees are expected, the agency said, with the coldest conditions in communities across the Sierra Nevada foothills.
“Be sure to limit exposure to early morning temperatures if possible and wear multiple layers,” the weather service said Monday in an X post.
Later in the week, Northern California can expect “moderate to heavy rain and mountain snow with gusty winds,” the agency said in a separate X post.
Here’s what to know:
When is freeze warning in effect?
The freeze warning will be in effect for the Sacramento Valley and northern San Joaquin Valley from 10 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday, the weather service said.
Communities affected by the warning include the cities of Modesto, Sacramento and Stockton, as well as Alder Springs, Chico, Fairfield, Marysville, Oroville, Paradise, Red Bluff, Redding, Suisun and Yuba City.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops (and) other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the weather service said.
