Dry January expected to end with rain in Modesto. Here’s how much could fall in next week
What’s been a very dry January in the Modesto area could end with a splash more rain Friday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
The final day of the month carries a 50% chance of showers, increasing to 90% Friday night. And that’s just the beginning — the weather service says precipitation is possible or probable each day at least through Wednesday.
The chance of rain is put at 90% from Friday night through Saturday night, dropping to 70% Sunday.
According to the weather service, there is a likely chance of rain Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but no percentages have been issued yet.
Daily highs will continue to remain in the upper 50s and low 60s, while lows will be in the 40s and 50s.
Two storm systems are coming to the region, according to a weather service briefing issued Thursday morning. The first, Friday through Sunday, could drop 1 to 1.5 inches of rain on Modesto. The second, Monday through Wednesday, could add 1.5 to 2 inches more.
As of Thursday morning, the Modesto Irrigation District had recorded just 0.17 inches of rain in all of January. This rain season, only 3.23 inches has been measured by MID. At this point in the season, which runs July 1 through June 30, the historic average is 6.66 inches.
