More showers to come for a wet and windy weekend in the Modesto area, weather service says

weather update

More rain is in the forecast this Thursday after a steady shower in the early morning hours. The National Weather Service reports a 60% chance of precipitation after 4 p.m. and continuing until just about midnight. A high of 55 degrees and a low of 47 degrees are predicted.

The Modesto Irrigation District recorded 0.39 inches of rain as of 8 a.m. The rain season total is at 1.07 inches. That’s well below the historical average of 2.97 inches by this point in the rain year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. The record for this far into the year is 8.52 inches, set in 1889.

A stronger system will arrive Friday night, bringing winds that could reach as high as 25 mph and a 90% chance of precipitation starting mainly after 4 a.m. and continuing until about 4 p.m. Saturday.

Those escaping to the mountains will get a fresh fall of snow Thursday, with minor impacts on road conditions. The storm system that arrives Friday night will bring moderate to heavy snowfall, potentially impacting road conditions and making chains necessary on icy roads.

The National Weather Service reports a mostly sunny Sunday, with a high of 56 degrees and a low of 43 degrees.

A weaker system will arrive Monday, bringing clouds and a chance of rain after 10 a.m. and continuing on and off throughout the day until about 10 p.m.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high of 57 degrees and a low of 42 degrees, with similar conditions on Wednesday.
