Modesto’s week in weather is predicted to include this record

Modesto is in for a roller coaster of a week in weather, the forecast says: Sunny to cloudy, warm to chilly, dry to wet. And the business week is expected to start with a temperature record.

After patchy morning fog, Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. If that proves accurate, it will be a record high for Modesto, according to Modesto Irrigation District weather data.

The record high for Jan. 29 is 69 degrees, set in 2014. The average high temperature for the date is just 57 degrees, according to MID, which has been recording highs and lows since 1939.

Though not expected to be record-setting, the unseasonably warm days continue Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs of 67 and 65, respectively. A chance of showers returns Tuesday night, and Wednesday holds a 40% chance of rain, mostly after 10 a.m. Both days are expected to be mostly cloudy.

The forecast is for rain Thursday, and a chance of showers through Saturday. The temperatures those three days — highs of 58, 54 and 54 — return to the seasonable range.

Total precipitation in Modesto between Tuesday and Saturday is predicted to be 1.5 to 2 inches.
