It’s going to be hot in Modesto on Thursday. What are the chances it will be record hot?

Weather update

Modesto is almost certainly going to feel record heat Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast and Modesto Irrigation District historical data.

The forecast says the high temperature will be 92 degrees. Even if the thermometer hits only 90, that will be a record for this date.

MID, which has recorded temperatures since 1939, says the record high temperature for Oct. 19 is 89 degrees, set in 2020. The high was 88 in 1989 and 1988, and 87 in 1995 and 1991. The rest of the top 10 hottest days on record are 84 degrees or higher.

The average high temperature for Oct. 19 is 76 degrees.

The lowest daily high temperature for the date, you ask? That was in 1949, when it got to only 57 degrees.

Friday’s high temperature, the weather service says, should be near 88 degrees. That’s not the record high for the date, which stands at 90 degrees.

Saturday’s high will be dramatically lower, near 75 degrees. Saturday night will grow partly cloudy, paving the way for a 40% chance of showers Sunday. Sunday’s high is expected to be near 72.

Mostly sunny skies then return, with expected daily highs near 75 Monday, and 74 Tuesday and Wednesday. The forecast includes a slight chance of showers Tuesday night.
