Big range of rainfall recorded in Stanislaus County on Saturday. Half inch fell in places
You got rain Saturday. Or you didn’t. Depends on where in Stanislaus County you reside.
The Modesto Irrigation District, which collects weather data at its office in downtown Modesto and at the Modesto Reservoir, had no measurable precipitation Saturday.
But at the Modesto Airport, the National Weather Service recorded .03 inches, a meteorologist at the NWS office in Sacramento told The Bee on Sunday. Residents in north Modesto got significantly more than that, though no official measurement was available Sunday.
In Oakdale, where data is collected near the Oak Valley Hospital District, 0.10 inches was measured, the NWS meteorologist said, and in Riverbank, near Jacob Myers Park, half an inch fell.
For some context, the most rain recorded by the Modesto Irrigation District on a Sept. 30 was 0.38 inches in 1983. In 1919, 0.20 inches fell. But in nearly every other year, almost no rain fell on that date.
No rain is in the weather service’s seven-day forecast for Modesto. The week ahead will have clear skies and steadily rising temperatures — including a string of unseasonably warm days.
Monday is expected to near 77 degrees, which is lower than the Oct. 2 historical average of 82 degrees. Tuesday should near 81, just a degree below average.
The anticipated highs of 85 on Wednesday and 98 on Thursday are above the historical average of 82 degrees for both those dates.
Friday is expected to reach near 89 degrees, and Saturday near 90. The average for both those dates is 81. Oh, and the highest temperatures recorded for Saturday’s date, Oct. 7? In 1980 and again in 1996, it reached 96 degrees., according to MID.
The Weather Channel’s forecast for Modesto at Weather.com extends beyond the NWS forecast and says highs in the low 90s could continue through Sunday, Oct. 8 before dropping off sharply to the low 80s.
