Goodbye, scorching sun. How much of a heat break will Modesto get for Labor Day weekend?

After Modesto temperatures rise to a predicted one-day return to triple digits, a much milder Labor Day weekend is forecast for the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Here’s what you can expect to feel in Modesto, along with popular travel locations in driving distance:

Labor Day weekend forecast

Temperatures are expected to increase over the next couple of days in Modesto, reaching a triple-digit head Thursday before dropping nearly 20 degrees. Here’s the National Weather Service forecast:

Tuesday- High near 92 with 6 to 13 mph winds and gusts as high as 18 mph; low around 67 and 8 to 10 mph winds

Wednesday- High near 96 with winds around 10 mph; low around 67 with 6 to 8 mph winds

Thursday- High near 101; low around 64

Friday- High near 82; low around 62

Saturday- High near 80; low around 62

Sunday- High near 82; low around 62

Monday, Labor Day- High near 86

Weather for popular travel destinations

If you’re traveling this holiday weekend, you may hit even cooler temperatures than those predicted for Modesto.

Temperatures in Tuolumne County will peak near 93 degrees during the week before dropping to the mid 70s over the weekend. Labor Day is expected to be around 82 degrees in towns including Sonora and Jamestown, according to the National Weather Service.

Popular camping areas, like Long Barn and Hull Creek, will have even milder weather, topping near 80 degrees Wednesday before cooling down to the low 60s over the weekend.

If you’re feeling more of a beachy vibe, Santa Cruz County will get to nearly 82 degrees midweek and cool to the high 60s over the weekend before warming up to the low 70s for the holiday.
