Extreme temperatures set to hit Modesto & Valley this weekend. Here is how to stay cool.
High temperatures again await Modesto after residents enjoyed a cooler week.
The National Weather Service predicts steadily rising temperatures this week, reaching triple digits Friday.
The expected highs are 90 on Monday, 97 Tuesday through Thursday, then jumping to 102 Friday, 105 Saturday, and 107 Sunday.
The forecast continues the temperature roller coaster the region has been on, which has included daily highs in Modesto of 106 degrees on July 1, 88 degrees July 6 and just 79 degrees Sunday, according to Modesto Irrigation District weather records.
Hotter days quickly can grow dangerous. Major risks including heat stroke and heat exhaustion are posed for people without housing and those with ineffective cooling.
Many branches of the Stanislaus County library system will serve as cooling centers. A complete list of cooling zones is at stanemergency.com/pdf/cooling-locations.pdf.
To stay cool and safe, consider canceling outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave pets or people in a car alone without the air conditioner running. Drink water, too — even if you are not thirsty.
If you are planning to enjoy all the Stanislaus County Fair has to offer, ensure you dress to keep cool and have an abundance of water and shade.
