Stanislaus fair will open amid mild weather. Where did rain and snow totals end up?

Pleasant weather awaits patrons on the first few days of the Stanislaus County Fair.

The National Weather Service forecast a high of 89 on Friday, the start of a 10-day run that ends July 16 at the Turlock grounds.

The expected highs are 88 Saturday, 89 Saturday and 92 Monday. Weather more typical for the season will then set in, with highs of 98 Tuesday and 100 Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the 2022-23 water year officially ended June 30 for many suppliers. It was among the wettest on record in California.

The Modesto Irrigation District recorded 18.94 inches of rain at its downtown headquarters. That was well above the annual average of 12.12 inches but short of the record 26.01 inches, set in 1982-83.

More important is the snowpack in the central Sierra Nevada, the main source for MID and many other agencies. It is measured through September of each year by the California Department of Water Resources.

As of Thursday, central Sierra watersheds were at 157% of average in a measure that combines the water content of rain and snow. The record is 194%, also set in 1982-83.

The current year could conceivably approach this with storms in summer and early fall. They are highly unlikely with California’s climate patterns, though.
