Latest storm system already closes a dozen Modesto parks, trails. Which ones are affected?
The rain and threats of flooding will once again close several Modesto parks and trails as the latest storm system drenches the city.
The current storm system is expected to drop 3 to 5 inches of rain in Modesto through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Showers started Thursday afternoon, and already the City of Modesto has posted a dozen new temporary park and trail closures starting Friday because of the stormy conditions.
Effective March 10 to March 13, the following parks, trails and access points will be closed to the public:
- Kewin Park
- Moose Park
- East La Loma Park
- Monterosso Park
- Tuolumne River Regional Park
- Dry Creek Regional Park
- All Tuolumne River Regional Park trails
- Gomes & Claus Road trail
- McClure Road trail
- Creekside Golf Course Parking Lot access point
- Riverside Drive & Edgebrook trail
- El Vista Bridge access point
The City of Modesto posted on its Facebook page about the closures, and said staff will continue to monitor the areas parks and trails for safety.
“Due to the impacts of recent heavy rains and safety concerns, we will be closing the following parks, all trails, and all trail access points,” the city posted. “We will continue to provide updates and information to our community once the parks have been inspected and can be safely reopened.”
The city had already closed some parks and trails temporarily during previous storm systems to hit the region this winter. In addition to the continued rain in the valley, another up to 12-feet of snow could fall in the already snowbound Sierra Nevada.
