Rain is in the Modesto-area forecast. What might it mean for Halloween trick-or-treaters?
The Modesto area just might get some much-needed rain this week, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
The Modesto-to-Sacramento region could see between a 10th and a quarter inch Tuesday through Wednesday, the weather service’s Sacramento office predicts.
If measurable rain does fall in Modesto, it will be the first since Sept. 18, when the Modesto Irrigation District recorded .05 inches. That’s the only rainfall so far of the 2022-23 season, according to the irrigation district.
It would be a nice start to November, which since 1888 has an average historical rainfall of 1.31 inches, MID says. October’s average rainfall is 0.63 inches, but this month saw none.
The timing of the rain is good, because coming a day earlier would have meant damp trick-or-treaters. Instead, Monday — which is Halloween — will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 70 and a light and variable wind.
Tuesday brings a 50% chance of showers but otherwise will be partly sunny, with a high near 65. By Tuesday night the chance of showers falls to 40%.
The chance of showers Wednesday is 30%, mainly after 11 a.m. The day should be partly sunny, with a high near 59. The chance of showers continues into Wednesday night, mainly before 11 p.m.
The remainder of the week is expected to be sunny, with highs near 60 Thursday, 62 Friday and 65 Saturday.
