A weather system of moderate strength could give the Modesto area up to an inch of rain between late Monday and late Tuesday.
Modesto should be mostly sunny much of Monday, with a high temperature near 61 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast.. There will be a 30% chance of rain after 5 p.m., building to an 80% chance after 11 p.m.
Precipitation Monday night could be between a quarter and half an inch.
The 80% chance of rain continues through most of Tuesday, falling at night to a 20% chance of showers before 11 p.m. Tuesday’s nigh is expected to be near 62.
Along with the rain, the forecast calls for winds up to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
At higher elevations, Sonora is predicted to receive between 1 and 2 inches of rain Monday and Tuesday, Tioga Pass could get 8 to 12 inches of snow, and Sonora Pass 12 to 18 inches.
For Modesto, mostly sunny days return Wednesday. The high temperatures are expected to be near 65 Wednesday and Thursday (which many people will have off work and school for Veterans Day), near 69 Friday and near 70 Saturday.
The last measurable rain in Modesto was 0.01 inches, recorded by the Modesto Irrigation District on Nov. 1. The last good rain was Oct. 21-25, when 3.37 inches fell.
