Modesto receives a quarter-inch of rain; more is expected throughout the day
The most recent rainfall predicted for Modesto by the National Weather Service didn’t materialize, but the wet stuff is back in the forecast for this week.
The weather service’s Sacramento office says Modesto could receive up to a half an inch between Sunday and Tuesday evening as a late-season storm hits interior Northern California. It is expected to bring periods of at least moderate rainfall, strong winds and cooler temperatures early this week. Drier conditions and higher temperatures then will return.
The city received 0.25 inches of rain between Sunday at 7 a.m. Monday.
Though Modesto was dry into late afternoon Sunday, an early evening shower produced 0.19 inches of rain, according to the Modesto Irrigation Distirct.
Showers weer expected throughout Monday, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m., the weather service says. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 71 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent, though less than a tenth of an inch is expected.
As of 7 a.m. Monday, Modesto had received 0.06 inches.
For Monday night, there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then showers between 8 and 11 p.m.
Tuesday’s forecast is a 20 percent chance of showers after 11 a.m., but otherwise mostly sunny, with a high near 72.
Wednesday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 77. After that, it’s highs in the 80s again: near 84 Thursday, 80 Friday and 82 Saturday.
The last rain measured by the Modesto Irrigation District was just more than a quarter inch in the period of April 6-10.
Average rainfall, according to MID records, is 0.96 inches for April and 0.49 inches for May. The current rain season total is 6.54 inches, which is a little more than half of the season rainfall average of 12.2 inches.
