Mild temperatures for Modesto this week, with rain expected sooner and later
There’s probably no need to pull out the umbrellas, but the cooler week ahead in Modesto also brings a chance of rain Monday night and Tuesday morning, then again on the weekend, the National Weather Service says.
After a few days with highs into the 90s, the cooling trend began Sunday. For Mother’s Day, the thermometer peaked at 84 degrees, which is just 5 degrees above the average historical temperature for Modesto, according to the Modesto Irrigation District.
The expected high for Monday is near 81, the weather service says, and there will be a light and variable wind of up to 10 mph in the afternoon.
Between 11 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday, the forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers. Less than a tenth of an inch is predicted for Modesto.
Tuesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 73. The average high temperature for the date is 80, MID records say.
Anticipated highs for the rest of the workweek are near 75 Wednesday, 76 Thursday and 81 Friday.
Saturday’s high should be near 83. The day will be partly sunny, with night bringing a chance of rain.
The chance of rain carries into Sunday, which will be mostly sunny with a high near 78.
The rain season runs July 1 through June 30, and the season rainfall average back to 1888 is 12.2 inches, according to MID. With less than two months remaining in the season, Modesto’s rainfall stands at 6.29 inches.
Average rain total for May, MID says is 0.49 inches, and for June is just 0.10 inches.
