It’ll be hotter in Modesto than earlier weather service forecast. But then, relief
You’ve already heard — and if you’re venturing outside have felt — that the heat is building this week. Both Saturday and Sunday, the daily high in Modesto was 77 degrees, the Modesto Irrigation District recorded. By Tuesday, the mercury reached 86.
Wednesday is looking good, with an expected high of 85, according to the National Weather Service office in Sacramento. It’s a breezy day, with a northwest wind predicted to reach up to 22 mph, and gusts up to 29 mph.
But the bad news from the weather service is that the days ahead likely will be a bit hotter than forecast earlier this week. High temperatures will be near 92 Thursday, near 97 Friday and near 95 Saturday.
Sunday’s high should be near 90, a degree lower than earlier predicted. That’s a bit of good news, but the better news is that Modesto will get a big break from the heat early next week.
Monday’s high will be near 84, the weather service says, with a chance of showers that night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday, the high is expected to reach only near 75.
That May 12 high is a little below the average for the date, which is 80 degrees, according to Modesto Irrigation District records. But the forecast highs for this Thursday through Saturday, May 7-9, are well above historic averages. MID keeps temperature data back to 1939, and the average for all three dates is 78 degrees.
Still, it always could be worse. The record high temperature for Thursday’s date, May 7? A scorching 102 degrees.
