It’s been pouring in Turlock — three times as much rain as in Modesto on Sunday
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Modesto area, lasting through 6 p.m. Sunday. A summary sent out by email midmorning said, “A strong, late-season winter storm continues to impact interior northern California, bringing periods of rain with scattered thunderstorms, heavy mountain snow and gusty winds today through Monday.”
It said impacts could include ponds of water on forming roads and small streams flooding.
Through Monday, Modesto could get up to an inch of rain, the weather service said. As of 4 p.m. Sunday, 0.26 inches had fallen, according to the Modesto Irrigation District. The rain was heavier in Turlock, where the Turlock Irrigation District reported 0.79 inches as of midafternoon.
Winds of about 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph, were projected by the weather service for Sunday afternoon in Modesto.
A thunderstorm threat through 7 p.m. includes possible hail, local flooding and weak tornadoes, the weather service said about the storm system in general, not specific to Stanislaus County or Modesto.
The chance of rain in Modesto on Sunday night is 90 percent, the weather service predicts, falling to 70 percent Monday and 40 percent by Monday night.
