Words from the ASB President David Gorman: “My senior year was definitely unique. While I am disappointed I was not able to have a prom, senior trip, or graduation, my final year at Downey was anything but wasted. I had an amazing football season and made memories with my teammates that will last for a lifetime. From the constant flow of laughter at team meals to the unforgettable games like the goose egg against Gregori, it was inevitable that I will forever miss Friday Night Lights. I was lucky enough to have my season, and I feel deeply for those who lost their seasons due to COVID-19. What really made my senior year special however was Coach Sanchez and the kitchen. Having already had him as my coach, we bonded more in the kitchen as we cooked daily, creating everything from pretzel bun cheeseburgers to orange chicken, all from scratch of course. Oddly what I will remember most is also what I will miss the most: the memories and relationships I made during my senior year.

Words from Principal Richard Baum: To the Class of 2020, the Chosen Class, the Pandemic Class, my heart goes out to each and every one of you. WE ALL WANT TO BE TOGETHER! None of us chose this path, no one is to blame, each of you have had to deal with a change that no living group of Seniors has ever experienced. We need you to become the leaders of tomorrow and begin today to share your light and energy to show us how brave and courageous you are in facing this adversity. You have the power to rise up and take bold steps in helping as you join the other graduates around the world who are also experiencing your trials. Yes, it is hard, but you are strong and bright with a will to succeed. Remember our motto, “Make a Difference Downey.”
