Graduation 2020: Whitmore Charter High student list, words from students, principal

School Name: Whitmore Charter High School

Number of graduates: 27

Valedictorian: Piper Johnson

Words from ASB President Perla Garcia: “What I will remember the most about high school will be all the effort all my teachers put into teaching us every day. The trial Ms. Hayes set up for us Junior year during our Great Gatsby unit, the math jeopardy Mr. Donnelly set up for us before every single test, Mr. Lema’s lucid chart videos after every math lesson, Ms. Rossi assigning us to make cookies so we would understand how cells reproduce, Ms. Mugele allowing us to have a silent dance break during American Sign Language lessons, and many other amazing memories that my Whitmore family has gifted me these past four years. I will miss not getting to properly thank every single friend and staff member for making these past four years unforgettable. Even though my graduation did not go as planned, I am very grateful for our virtual graduation ceremony. My mom said to me on my graduation day “Perla you always have to be unique don’t you. You were born early, your personality, style, and now a virtual graduation.” So class of 2020 let’s celebrate our uniqueness and for changing the traditional ceremony and be grateful for being able to celebrate with our loved ones.”

Words from Principal Sarah Olson: “Seniors, as you embark on the next chapter of your lives, I want you to remember how resilient you have been during this unprecedented time. I know it was not easy to end the school year abruptly, not knowing whether or not we would be back on campus together. You have all shown amazing strength, perseverance, and positivity over the past two months, and I know you will be able to achieve anything you set your mind to. When you face challenges and struggles in the future, I encourage you to reflect on this time and remember all of the things you were able to accomplish and the obstacles you were able to overcome “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world (Harriet Tubman).” I wish each of you the best in your future endeavors.”
