Graduation 2020: Turlock Christian High – words from students, principal
School Name: Turlock Christian School
Number of graduates: 48
Valedictorian: Mariah Canton
Words from ASB President Micah Bergthold: “What I miss most about senior year is interacting with people, including peers, teachers, administrators, and staff. It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t have our final prom, senior trip, and spring season, among other events, but the true tragedy is missing out on socialization. Such events provide unique opportunities for interaction, beyond that of the classroom, which create distinctive circumstances for bonding between individuals and the creation of memories.”
Words from Principal Janna Fisher: “To the Turlock Christian Senior Class of 2020”
This has been an unprecedented year for you. You started your senior year full of optimism and excitement of the memories to come, only to have the second half of your senior year change abruptly. In an instant, events, sports, and your ability to attend school on campus were taken away. We, your administration, teachers, and family mourn those losses with you. We have all had to adapt to a new vocabulary of “hoarding”, “social distancing”, “global pandemic”, and “face masks” - all of this marking the end of your 13-year education journey from kindergarten to high school.
As challenging as this is, none of it takes away from your accomplishments. Even in the midst of the storm, you are rising to the challenge to finish strong. Isaiah 40:31 states, “... but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Our school mascot is the Eagle; Eagles are fascinating creatures. I once read that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching. It knows, and it waits for the strong winds to come. When you are faced with a storm, turn to the one who loves you and has the power to lift you higher than the storm. Allow Him to be the source of your strength and use His word to be your guide as you head into uncharted territory. I am so proud to be your principal. It has been an honor to watch you grow into the incredible young men and women that you are today. You are ready for the next part of your exciting journey – it’s your turn to fly!”
