Sanders will hold rally in Stockton
Bernie Sanders will hold a Tuesday morning rally in Stockton, a rare event for a region usually passed over by presidential campaigns.
The Democratic senator from Vermont invites the public to join him as he battles front-runner Hillary Clinton in the California primary June 7.
The rally will be at 10 a.m. at the Weber Point Event Center, 221 N. Center St. in downtown Stockton. Doors will open at 7 a.m.
The Sanders campaign said he will talk about issues such as big money in politics, making public colleges tuition-free, dealing with climate change and raising the minimum wage (already happening in California).
Clinton, the former secretary of state and first lady, had 2,228 of the 2,383 delegates needed for the nomination as of Sunday. Sanders stood at 1,454 delegates but has vowed to continue his campaign. Billionaire Donald Trump is all but certain to be the Republican candidate in November.
California usually is an afterthought in the primary season, thanks to much-earlier contests around the nation, and the Northern San Joaquin Valley rarely draws a major candidate.
The rally is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP at www.berniesanders.com. For security reasons, they cannot bring bags into the center, and they should carry just the basics, such as keys and cellphones.
Sanders also will hold a rally Monday in Sacramento.
