Filing window opens for school board seats across Stanislaus County. What to know
Several seats are open across various school district boards in Stanislaus County and the county board of education itself. The deadline to file for candidacy is Aug. 7 at 5 p.m.
Candidates must be registered voters and meet residency requirements for the respective positions.
Trustees are responsible for forming district policies, shaping budgets, attending board of education meetings, being a part of labor negotiations and more. Those interested in filing for candidacy can pick up the necessary forms at the County Clerk Recorder’s Office, 1021 I St., Modesto.
There are two-year and four-year terms open, and those interested in filing should ensure they are eligible to represent a specific area within a district:
- Ceres Unified (four-year terms) - Areas 2, 3, 5, 6
- Chatom Union - (four-year terms) - Areas 1, 2, 5
- Denair Unified - two seats
- Empire Union (four-year terms) - Areas 3, 4, 5
- Gratton School District - three seats
- Hart-Ransom Union - three seats
- Hickman Community Charter - two seats
- Hughson Unified (four-year terms) - Areas 2, 4, 5
- Keyes Union (four-year terms) - Areas 2, 3, 5
- Knights Ferry School District (one two-year term, three four-year terms) - four seats
- Modesto City Schools (four-year terms) - Areas 1, 3, 5, 7
- Newman-Crows Landing (four-year terms) - Areas 2, 5
- Oakdale Joint Unified (four-year terms) - Areas 1, 4, 5
- Paradise School District - two seats
- Patterson Joint Unified (one two-year term, three four-year terms) - Areas 2, 4, 6, 7
- Riverbank Unified (four-year terms) - Areas 2, 3, 4
- Roberts Ferry Union (one two-year term and three four-year terms) - four seats
- Salida Union (four-year terms) - Areas 1, 3, 5
- Shiloh School District - two seats
