Preliminary results show voters in Stanislaus County turned out in greater numbers than in last primary elections.

Only a few ballots remain uncounted in the Stanislaus County primary, and including those, 34% of eligible voters took part in this election. That’s up from just 23% in the county’s last primary election in 2022.

Donna Linder, Stanislaus County registrar of voters, said she does not expect any major changes with the few ballots left to count.

Stanislaus County voted redder than the state as a whole. Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton received around 34% of the vote in the county and took the top spot locally, but secured only 25% of the state so far. Democrat Xavier Becerra has led the state but came in second in Stanislaus with 25% as of the June 11 update.

Both locally and districtwide, voters in the U.S. House 13th District strongly supported Merced-based Adam Gray over former Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln. Gray narrowly defeated Republican John Duarte in 2024.

In the race to represent state Senate District 4, Stanislaus showed strong support for Jaron Brandon, a Tuolumne County supervisor. He received 44% of the Stanislaus vote and 41% districtwide.

Likewise, Alexandra Duarte, a deeply conservative candidate from Stanislaus County, fared better in Stanislaus than the rest of the district. She received 37% in the county but only 32% districtwide. Both will be on the ballot Nov. 6.

In Assembly District 9, incumbent Republican Heath Flora dominated in the county with 44% of the vote as of the most recent update. His November rival, Democrat Matthew Adams, is in distant second at just 21%. Districtwide, Flora has a more modest lead of 31% to Adams’ 26%.

Stanislaus County will hand in its official results June 26. Due to state law, the full statement of votes will be certified July 10 to allow for ballot cures.
