Janice Keating, Robert Frobose and John Boer had early leads Tuesday night for three seats on the Modesto Irrigation District board.

As of 10 p.m., Keating had 3,260 votes in Division 2 versus 2,907 for Frank Damrell. Incumbent John Mensinger did not run again for the seat, which represents central Modesto.

In Division 3, the northeast part of MID, Frobose had 3,354 votes to 3,000 for Nick Dokoozlian. Incumbent Paul Campbell did not seek re-election.

In Division 3, the northwest, Boer had 2,793 votes to 2,176 for incumbent Stu Gilman and 567 for Brad Johnson.

The tally includes votes received through Monday by the Stanislaus County Election Office.

MID irrigates about 58,000 farmland acres from the Tuolumne River and supplements groundwater for Modesto and a few smaller locales. The district has about 130,000 electricity customers.

The board will could face a fourth year of drought in 2023 as well as the state’s long term effort to boost releases from Don Pedro Reservoir into the lower river.

MID also will contend with state mandates to boost renewable power and to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles in favor of electric.
