The State Theatre has booked an unusual double feature: a speech by Modesto’s mayor, followed by a film on homelessness in the city.
Mayor Sue Zwahlen will give the annual State of the City Address at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7. The city-produced documentary is about the Camp2Home program, which helps people find housing and jobs.
Admission is free. Tickets can be reserved on the venue’s website, www.thestate.org. It is at 1307 J St. The lobby will open at 4:30 p.m. for viewing of a Camp2Home display.

Zwahlen is seeking a second four-year term on the March 5 ballot against Dewey Bedford and Sebastian Jones. If no one surpasses 50%, the top two will advance to a November runoff.
The city website describes Thursday’s speech as “a celebration of city accomplishments in 2023, an overview of initiatives that are underway, and a look ahead to the future of our Modesto community.”
