Hundreds of opponents of a controversial state measure requiring vaccinations for nearly all schoolchildren rallied outside the California Democratic Party’s annual convention on Saturday.

The demonstration, which took place next to a separate protest by unionized carpenters over a federal trade deal, included parents, children, and guest speaker Jenna Elfman, the actress known for her work in the sitcom “Dharma & Greg.”

With the bill moving to the state Assembly, the activists called on lawmakers to reject the measure, saying it infringes on their freedom. “We’re not going away!” they chanted.
