Stranger assaults 78-year-old woman on her porch, Kentucky cops say. ‘So mad’
Police in Kentucky are investigating after a woman was assaulted on her front porch in an incident caught on video, according to news reports.
On Aug. 23, 78-year-old Jan Fletcher was cleaning her front porch in Louisville when she said a young man, maybe around 14 to 16 years old, walked up asking for directions to a nearby park, WDRB reported.
Surveillance footage obtained by WAVE shows the teen ask Fletcher “is somebody in there,” questioning if someone was inside the home.
Then, he is seen inappropriately touching the woman’s backside, according to the news outlet.
The teen repeatedly groped Fletcher before she stopped him, WLKY reported.
“I was so mad that it happened,” Fletcher told the outlet. “I was thinking, ‘What could I have done different?’ But I don’t know what I could have done differently.”
Fletcher told WAVE she believes the teen was trying to find her keys or looking for money.
“This person could’ve had a knife in his pocket or a gun,” she told WDRB. “I’d have died trying to keep him away from me.’”
Fletcher’s granddaughter said it made her sick to see someone assaulting her.
“For anybody, but for an older woman, she didn’t deserve that,” Jessica Powell-Page told WLKY. “Whatever the reason is, it’s beyond unacceptable.”
Police have not located the individual, according to WAVE. But Fletcher said she is not scared of him.
“I’ve been asked if I’m afraid to sit here on my porch and I’m not,” she told WLKY. “I want him to know you’re not scaring me. Absolutely not. So every day that it’s nice weather, I will be on my porch.”
