Gentle dog surrendered to shelter yearns to feel safe. ‘Her person really did try’
A sweet and gentle dog is back to patiently waiting for a new home after she was brought to an Indiana shelter.
Bea, a 2-year-old pit bull, terrier mix, is ready for a new start after she was surrendered to the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers due to her need to be the center of attention.
“Bea came to us on New Year’s Eve,” the shelter said in a March 26 Facebook post. “While the rest of the world was counting down and clinking glasses, she was being surrendered to the shelter.
“Her person really did try. They had hoped Bea and their resident dog could become companions, but the match just wasn’t right. In the end, they knew Bea deserved a home where she could finally relax—where she could be herself and feel safe.”
Turns out, Bea needs to be the only dog in a home.
“And the truth is, when Bea isn’t sharing space with another dog, she’s pretty perfect. She’s smart, housebroken, and not destructive,” the shelter said. “Out on walks, she’s curious and sweet and often surprises people with how gentle she is. She loves her stuffed toys and will even carry one around with her on walks like it’s her little security blanket.”
According to her pet profile, Bea can truly be herself when all the attention is on her and no other dogs.
“While she’s shown some reactivity toward other dogs through windows, she’s been neutral when passing dogs at a distance on walks,” her profile says. “She’s still working on her leash skills, but getting better every day.”
The shelter posted a video that demonstrates Bea’s kind nature.
“You can see that softness for yourself in this video—a few quiet moments of Bea being exactly who she is: playful, gentle, and just so easy to love,” the shelter said.
“What she needs now is a soft place to land. A home where she can be your one and only. Somewhere quiet, predictable, and full of love.”
