15-year-old cat left ‘confused’ after being surrendered to shelter. ‘Just too much’
After spending time with her beloved human, a young-at-heart cat is dealing with the intense stress brought on by being in an Indiana shelter atmosphere.
Peepers, or as her pet profile calls her Miss Peepers, is a small tortoiseshell feline who lived with her owner until the unfortunate started to happen.
“Peepers is 15 years old. Fifteen. And instead of living out her golden years on a warm blanket in a quiet home, she’s back in a loud, unfamiliar shelter—confused, heartbroken, and wondering what happened to the life she once knew,” Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a March 19 Facebook post.
“After her owner’s health declined, Peepers was surrendered. She spent some time in a loving foster home where she began to feel safe again—enjoying gentle chin scratches, soft blankets, and sleeping next to her person at night. But now she’s back in the shelter… and it’s just too much for a senior cat like her.”
And Miss Peepers wants none of the shelter lifestyle — with its loud noises and constant comings and goings, especially since she has diabetes.
“Peepers is diabetic, but she takes her insulin shots like a champ. She’s quiet, well-mannered, and has impeccable litter box habits. She doesn’t ask for much—just someone to be patient and kind, someone who understands the gentle rhythm of senior cats and the quiet love they give in return,” the shelter added.
“She’s not looking for toys or chaos. She’s looking for peace… a window to sit by, a cozy spot to nap, a warm lap to lean against, and a human who will see her for the treasure she truly is. She loved sitting beside her foster mom in the evenings during reading or TV time, leaning gently into her lap for comfort. She was always a perfect lady—never missing the litter box, politely meowing when mealtime arrived, and spending most of her day napping in cozy spots with a special fondness for sunbeams.”
Her pet profile notes that she’s a quiet girl, so children are a no-go.
