Pup has watched other dogs get adopted at Ohio shelter for 5 years. She needs a home

A dog in Ohio has waited long enough for a home after being rescued for deplorable conditions, a shelter posted on social media.

Emerald, a boxer mix who is in her golden years, arrived at the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project shelter in Warren in 2019 and has constantly watched people pass her by for almost five years, her pet profile says.

“This is almost the only home I remember, and I would love one all of my own,” Emerald’s profile says.

According to Fox 19 Now, Emerald was rescued from a horrible situation in an apartment. She suffered from skin issues and overgrown nails at the time and still needs a daily dose of the anti-itch medication Apoquel, Fox said.

But her past hasn’t put a hinder on her love for people.

“I love playing and getting belly rubs,” her profile says.

“I am dog selective and live with cats that don’t bother me. I don’t like to share toys, so a home with no small kids is a must. I’m a people pleaser, and I will work hard for treats!”

The shelter has highlighted Emerald when given the opportunity, multiple posts on Facebook show — including one from August 2023.

For more online information on Emerald or other adoptable pets, visit the shelter’s website.
