See Charlie Puth pay tearful tribute to Matthew Perry at concert. ‘Full body chills’
Singer Charlie Puth paid a tearful tribute to “Friends” star Matthew Perry during his concert one day after the 54-year-old actor died at his California home from an apparent drowning.
Puth, known for radio hits such as “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” broke out into a familiar tune at the Oct. 29 show in Melbourne, Australia, a TikTok video posted by @gracefrost_music shows.
In the video, Puth plays The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There For You,” the theme song of the hit NBC comedy series where Perry played the sarcastically lovable Chandler Bing for 10 seasons.
Fans can be heard singing along to the familiar tune before the singer transitioned into “See You Again,” his 2015 song that was a tribute to actor Paul Walker who had died in 2013.
The performance left fans in tears, according to the comment section on TikTok.
“I hope Matthew Perry is seeing this and finally knows how much he is loved,” one person said.
“This gave me full body chills. RIP Matthew Perry,” another commented.
“And then he transitions into see you again?!? I’d be on the floor sobbing,” someone said.
“My heart is so full and broken all at once over this,” one person expressed.
The news of Perry’s death shook Hollywood and fans all over the world as tributes poured in on social media, mourning the comedian and actor who had publicly stated he struggled with severe addictions to drugs and alcohol at the height of his “Friends” career.
Perry spoke candidly about his addictions in his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.”
First responders found the actor Oct. 28 unresponsive in his freestanding Jacuzzi, CNN and other news outlets reported.
Perry’s family spoke out in a statement to PEOPLE on Oct. 29.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” his family said in the statement to PEOPLE. “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
