49ers fan proposes to Cowboys fan after NFL game — then NBC announcers chime in
Timing is everything.
Or nothing at all according to the actions of one fearless San Francisco 49ers football fan, who pulled a move to remember during the complete and utter dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys 42-10 at Levi Stadium on Oct. 8.
On the field, quarterback Brock Purdy and the offense took care of business while off the field, a boyfriend made it official with his girlfriend by getting down on one knee and proposing. She was the only person wearing blue and silver in a vast sea of red.
NBC broadcasters Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico caught sight of the proposal and decided to break down the happy event in a way that only Collinsworth and Tirico can.
“Would he have done it if the Cowboys had won?” Collinsworth asked. “I don’t think so. I think he’s holding the ring. You can’t start a marriage like that, with her having the upper hand. But the 49ers win, ‘Here you go, let’s get married.’”
For those wondering, she did indeed say yes.
Fans, of course, had their own thoughts.
“If anyone ever tried to propose to me at a Jags game where my team is losing, instant breakup material,” one person noted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I don’t make the rules.”
“I was ready to change to Last Week Tonight, but then I saw this and was totally engrossed in these scenes and Cris Collinsworth’s breakdown,” another said on X.
“And I thought UCLA-USC divided houses were tough…those crazy kids must truly love each other!” someone observed.
The Cowboys head to Los Angeles next week to take on the Chargers while the 49ers take the field in Cleveland on Sunday, Oct. 15 against the Browns.
