Florida teen found safe after disappearing during JROTC trip to Georgia, cops say
UPDATE: At about 7 p.m. Nov. 8, the Upson County Sheriff’s Office said Mia Brailford had been found safe in Phenix City, Alabama. Officials said they worked with local, state and federal officials as they searched the area near Gerald Lawhorn Scouting Base in Georgia and used cellphone technology to help locate the missing teen.
“A male subject was detained at the location of the recovery and is expected to be charged with Interstate Interference with child custody, a felony,” deputies said in a news release.
ORIGINAL STORY: A search is underway for a Florida teen who vanished during a class field trip to a scouting base in Middle Georgia over the weekend.
Mia Brailford, 16, was visiting the Gerald Lawhorn Scouting Base in Molena, Georgia, with her JROTC class Saturday, Nov. 6, when she went missing, Palm Beach County school officials wrote in a new release. Brailford is a student at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach.
The teen’s roommate said she last saw Mia around 11:30 p.m. in the tent they were sharing, according to school officials. Mia then failed to show up to morning check-in at 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.
The Upson County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia is now investigating. Authorities haven’t released further information.

Molena is about 61 miles northwest of Macon.
