School accused of teaching racist ‘Hunter Chase the Slave’ game, Nevada parent says

A Las Vegas elementary school is accused by a parent of teaching a racist version of “Duck, Duck, Goose” called “Hunter Catch the Slave.”

Jollina Simpson wrote in a Facebook post that her daughter told her about the new game and tried to teach it to her.

“My daughter came home from school having learned this in her kindergarten classroom!,” she wrote. “I went to the school and talked directly to the principal, who reached out to his supervisor immediately. I am calmer now, but not by much. I could hardly sit still. I am angry and rightfully so! This is not a game. This insights violence! This covers the truth of the white enslavers who terrorized enslaved people for hundreds of years! My daughter wanted to play this ‘game’ with me! I wonder who will be playing it on the playground tomorrow. Not my daughter, she will be staying home.”

Simpson told Fox11 that she was “in disbelief and even teary-eyed” when her daughter told her about the game.

“It was depicting horrors in a light that does not give the correct weight to what happened... and it was also depicted in a kindergarten classroom,” Simpson told the outlet.

“Because I’m a black woman and black people live with the repercussions of slavery in this country every day,” she said.

Rowe Elementary School Principal Jeffrey Schaber said in a message to parents that the alleged incident is under investigation, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“We will not tolerate behaviors that contradict an inclusive community and impact the needs of our students,” Schaber said, according to the outlet.

Simpson wrote in an update that the teacher has been removed during the investigation.
