Book sale to benefit Turlock library

A bastion of books will be available for sale this week, with proceeds going to the city’s library.

Friends of the Turlock Public Library has sorted a variety of tomes – all donated by the community – into more than two dozen categories for its annual used book sale: fiction, travel, history, children’s books, biography, politics, music, the arts and more.

In addition, volunteers will peddle donated videos, books on tape, CDs, book sets, and old or special volumes.

The sale begins with a members-only event Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memberships to Friends of the Turlock Public Library are $10 annually, $20 for families, and will be offered at the door Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 1660 Arbor Way, so new members can participate in the presale.

The book sale opens to the public Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., also at the church. Admission is free.

Most of the hardbound volumes will be priced at $1, with paperbacks going for 50 cents, except for romances, which will be 10 cents each. Children’s books will be 25 to 50 cents.

The sale’s proceeds will go to the Turlock branch of the Stanislaus County Library for things not covered in the county budget, including children’s programs, furniture and subscriptions.
