Turlock man arrested on assault, drug charges
Turlock police searched the home of a shooting suspect on Wednesday and found a marijuana growing operation, $16,000 and other drugs.
At about 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Tully Road for a report of shots fired. The victim was shot inside the suspect’s home but officers found him walking down the road, said Officer Steve Rodrigues. He’d been shot once in the arm.
The victim gave officers a description of the suspect’s vehicle. California State University, Stanislaus officers located a vehicle matching the description being driven by 26-year-old Nicholas Cheary.
Detectives identified Cheary as the shooter and arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
On Wednesday afternoon detectives searched Cheary’s car and home.
They seized over $16,000, 200 grams of cocaine, 30 marijuana plants, about five pounds of dried marijuana and a firearm. Rodriques said investigators do not know if it was the same firearm that was used to shoot the victim.
After the search, Cheary was re-booked on additional charges of possessing marijuana and cocaine for sale and possessing a firearm while being in possession of narcotics.
Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or any other similar incidents is asked to contact Det. Brandon Bertram at 209-664-7323.
